I had a chat with our client and he was very happy with the result of my SEO audit for his website.
Our client is a real estate developer that’s just starting out in the SEO game. His website has a good number of pages, and he’s also using a few of the techniques we helped him with. I’m not sure if they’re all good, and I can’t speak for the other websites that we have helped.
The reason most website owners don’t get this done is because they just don’t know how to do it themselves. I know it can be intimidating, but don’t let that scare you away. I’m just glad I could help him.
SEO in general is a pretty popular keyword in the web, so it’s pretty much a given that a website that is getting listed in the online directory is probably getting some attention in the search engines. But what about the ones that are not? If you aren’t getting listed, why are your competitors getting listed? Well, Google uses data from a few ranking factors to determine whether a page is getting listed, including how relevant it is to your business.
The more relevant a page is, the higher the ranking it gets. A good directory page might have a number of pages with relevant content, but if these pages are all competing for the same ranking, the pages that have the most links will dominate Google’s list of relevant pages. This means that those page rankings are likely to get more attention than the most irrelevant pages. Google is still in the process of getting things sorted out and is likely to use different ranking factors to decide what pages get listed.
This is a good thing because, even if Google doesn’t actually use the ranking factors that webmasters use, it is still a good idea to get a page ranked highly in your directory because it will likely help bring more page traffic to your website.
This is a good thing because it means that pages that are not relevant to your website and have small backlinks that are not really worth linking to will be less looked at. It will also mean that pages that are no longer relevant to your SEO efforts and are simply out of date will likely get less attention. This is good because it means that if you are still getting no page views because your website is not optimized, then it might as well not exist.
I can’t argue with that. The website is still there. I still have to do the work to get it to a level that it was at before. But now I get to keep doing it because it is no longer relevant.
Google, who are making money off SEO, have become a bit more savvy about what is and is not relevant. Because Google is still a giant SEO juggernaut that can pull whatever they want out of your site, they have taken notice. They will start to only pay attention to pages that they can see is relevant to their search query. The other side effect this has is that you might find your page no longer being indexed.
The search engines have been the biggest beneficiaries of the shift in how they rank sites. The effect is that they now pay more attention to the content that gets the most backlinks, even if the content is the same on the site that it is on now.
