The fact is that a website can rank high for a specific phrase if they have a lot of backlinks. A search engine website that ranks high for the phrase “new car” might rank low for the phrase “new car parts.” However, if they have a lot of backlinks, then the website can rank high for the phrase “new car parts.
Again, backlinks are one of the three ranking factors in Google which determines the web sites that we look at when we search for a website we want to link to. It’s not that we need backlinks to get a high ranking. But backlinks do help you have more authority in the eyes of search engines. It’s not that backlinks are always required. But if you get a lot of backlinks, the website will rank higher in search results.
It’s actually the search engines who rank backlinks. With the advent of the “crowd-sourced” web, the way we search for a website is getting much more automated. Sites that provide an “auto-suggest” or “Google” search are ranking higher in search results. We have the ability to do keyword searches and then link directly to the results.
The website or blog that you want to rank high in search results should have authority. Authority isn’t just in the eyes of search engines. It’s in the eyes of people who will visit your website (or blog) in the first place, and who will link to your site (or blog). But if you don’t have an authority site, the website you want to rank high in search results is actually a poor choice for building links.
SEO is all about building an authority site. This is why it is so important to link to other sites that have authority on your topic. Links are the most effective way of building authority. Authority is measured by how many other people link to a page, with links being the most effective. Authority is so important because search engines look at links from other pages as votes. Which means that if a page has a lot of links, it will probably rank better in search results.
The question is how do you make a point that will be enough to be the most authoritative page on your website? To do that, you need two things: Authority and Volume. Authority is the number of other pages linking to your page. Volume is how many people are linking to you. Volume is most effective on pages that have a lot of links.
